A Day In Dover

Oil painting on 15”x20” wood Panel

For this oil painting, I painted a moment where my friends and I went to the Cliffs of Dover in Dover, England. We had been hiking it all day, and then came to this point where you could stop and keep going, or go to the very top of this little ledge, and while everyone began to race each other up to the top, I stayed back, wanting to take in the moment by myself. It was an image I don’t think I will ever forget, one that I’m thankful that I captured from my iPhone, but it seriously felt like I was in a dream.

It had been overcast all day long, and when they had gotten to the top, with me still at the bottom, I was able to really notice that the sun had come out. Reminiscing on this incredible moment, I knew I had to paint it, so I was inspired by Monet to enhance the picture through the brush strokes, texture and color.
